In-wall
Flush installation can eliminate cabinet diffraction and recover floor space, but wall construction, back-volume requirements and service access must be solved before finishes are complete.
On-wall
On-wall speakers preserve relatively shallow depth while remaining serviceable. They can be useful behind fabric walls or in shallow baffle-wall constructions.
Freestanding
Freestanding speakers are easier to reposition and may provide larger cabinet volume, but they consume room depth and can complicate sightlines behind an acoustically transparent screen.
The boundary is part of the design
A speaker designed for wall loading may measure differently when pulled into free space. Follow the intended installation condition rather than treating mounting style as cosmetic.
Hidden does not mean compromised
A properly engineered architectural speaker can outperform an exposed conventional speaker when the room and boundary conditions are designed around it.
