ACTIVE ARCHITECTURE COMPARISON

Genelec SAM / GLM vs Smart IP / Dante

They are both active Genelec ecosystems, but they solve signal transport, power and system management in fundamentally different ways.

THE PRACTICAL DIFFERENCE
Choose the infrastructure before you choose the ecosystem.

SAM/GLM is the more natural route when the cinema is being built around high-output studio-monitor architecture and the processor can feed the active monitors conventionally. Smart IP is the more natural route when the project is being built around managed Ethernet, Dante/AES67 and PoE.

Smart IP is especially compelling for compact surround and height roles because the 4430A and 4435A can receive network audio, power and management over CAT cabling. SAM remains the more obvious Genelec route when flagship The Ones performance is the priority.

DO NOT CONFUSE THE SOFTWARE
GLMGenelec Loudspeaker Manager is the calibration and management environment used with Genelec SAM monitoring systems.
Smart IP ManagerConfiguration, EQ, organisation and status monitoring for Genelec Smart IP installation loudspeakers.
Dante ControllerUsed to configure Dante audio routing. It does not replace the cinema processor’s decoding or speaker-layout decisions.
