WHY IT EXISTS
An entire cinema can be built as one networked active monitoring system.

Genelec publishes this 7.1.6 combination as a large-room home-theatre solution: seven 8361A monitors, six 8351B monitors and a 7382A subwoofer.

The significance is architectural. Instead of a central multichannel power-amplifier rack feeding passive speakers, power amplification and DSP live at every loudspeaker and GLM manages the system as a network.

SYSTEM ROLE

Where it fits in a cinema.

01

Base layer

Seven identical 8361A monitors create a highly consistent horizontal field.

02

Height layer

Six 8351B monitors provide a serious rather than decorative overhead layer.

03

Low frequency

7382A anchors the system with high-output active bass.

ROOM DESIGN
Choose the room conditions before choosing the quantity.
Power distributionEvery speaker location needs mains power.
Signal architectureBalanced analogue or AES/EBU routing can become a major cable-design exercise.
CalibrationGLM can manage system alignment, but cinema processor calibration still needs to be considered as part of the full chain.
